Dealing with Problematic Water - Wisler Plumbing & Air

First of all, what is problem water? With municipal water sources, problem water usually means it has excessively high mineral content (hard water). With well water, it tends to have high amounts of iron bacteria or low pH. It will have a bad smell, cause staining, and be corrosive enough to cause damage to the plumbing system.

At Wisler Plumbing, we use a patented product called Evolve to treat problem water. It works by killing the nuisance iron bacteria that create the bad smell. Other treatment systems accumulate bacteria within the mineral encasement, requiring sanitization. Evolve sanitizes itself by producing a chlorine gas.

Years ago, iron in problem water was oxidized by using one of several treatment options: chlorine, oxygen, and pressurized oxygen. Since chlorine is a chemical, introducing it into the system will end up making the iron sticky, and the chlorine residue must somehow be removed. This is why oxygen treatment is currently by far the best way to oxidize the iron. Placing an air device in the line before the air filter effectively sprinkles the water down a pressurized chamber (this causes oxidation of the iron). The water then goes directly into the filtration media. This technology is much cleaner and way more efficient than the alternatives. It results in no stopped up pipes and requires very little maintenance.

Excessive bacteria in the water supply can be a scary issue to deal with. An option to combat this problem is to utilize UV lights to kill the bacteria. UV effectively prevents the bacteria from reproducing, ultimately destroying up to 98% of the bacteria in the water. It is very low maintenance, and an option we highly recommend when dealing with excessive bacteria in the water system.
